Properties and applications
Compact yarns are ring-spun yarns with an additional condensing zone after the drafting system. The fibre strand is condensed pneumatically before it receives twist, so more edge fibres are bound into the yarn.
- Considerably lower hairiness than conventional ring-spun yarn.
- Higher strength and elongation at the same twist, or less twist at the same strength for a softer handle.
- Clearer fabric appearance, better lustre, less pilling.
- Typical uses: fine shirting and blouse fabrics, bed linen, fine knitwear, underwear, plied yarns in high counts.
Very fine counts require long-staple cotton, such as the Giza cotton in our special qualities.
